SCHOLAR ENGINES 1.8 ROVER K SERIES CYLINDER BLOCK

Scholar Engines can now supply the most cost effective answer for the 1. 8 Rover K series cylinder block in terms of power and reliability. With the known structural weakness of the K series block and experience of maintaining 200hp engines for the "Lotus Motorsport Autobytol Series" the EV04 specification cylinder block was developed.

Although the actual method of work is not for general release the way the result is obtained is as follows; The closed deck block, achieved by welding, is fitted with semi finished high quality grey cast iron liners with dimensions modified for extra strength to prevent liner pant and allow an interference fit adding to the overall strength and rigidity of the block. Heat distortion during the welding process necessitates the complete re-machining of all the working surfaces. This includes hot boring and hot honing of the cylinder bores under pre stressed conditions, machining the liner standout in relation to the top surface of the block, line boring and honing of the main bearing housings.
